I Wasn't Giving You the Finger...Promise!

Let me set the scene for you. I had attended a very important meeting with people of the Korean culture. They are humble, quiet, awesome people who do business very quietly and with purpose. We ended the meeting and went to Ci Ci's Pizza for lunch. As we found our seats, one of the managers was a lefty and thought he would do better on the opposite side so I came to sit by Denise. I sat down, grabbed what I thought was the bottom of the chair on each side to scoot in. I didn't realize that the seat was detached from the chair so my fingers slipped in between. When I lifted and scoot forward and sat back down my left hand was caught in between. It was positioned in such a way that the nail that had detached from the bottom of the chair went through my nail bed on my left middle finger all the way to the other side of my finger.

My first reaction was, "Denise, I think I hurt my finger". Other than the look of shock on my face, I don't think she thought it was more than a pinch. I finally got the courage to look at it and the nail had shattered my acrylic nail covering and there was blood coming out the top and the exit hole on the other side. The pain began and I didn't want to make a scene with our honorable guests so I just toughed it out. I can't even remember eating. I wrapped it in a napkin until Denise found a band aid and a large Tylenol capsule. The throbbing clouded my thought processes the rest of the lunch.

I quickly got my things back at the store and headed to my car. We drove tandem back towards South Bend. In order for it to not pound so bad, I had to hold it straight up in the air. Many truckers did a double take as I literally looked like I was giving all motorists the "finger" all the way home. I hit Wal-mart on the way in and bought band aids and peroxide. Two days later, my middle finger is bruised and the nail bed part is extremely sore. This, by the way, could ONLY happen to this redhead.
