A Moment Like This

So I am on a bus for hours to go to and from the most awesome "outing" in Chicago for my company, U.S. Cellular.

On the long bus ride home, everyone nestled up in their seats to either chat quietly or to catch a snooze. I had my ipod and stretched out on the seat and listened first to two of my favorite praise songs, Revolutionary Love and Marvelous Light. My church is so awesome and leaves such a lasting impression that I can close my eyes and see our band up there playing and jamming to these two songs. It's great.

I then listened to my Kelly Clarkson songs. Some of her lyrics just cut through your soul. Not only does she have a great, soulful voice but her choice in songs adds to that soulfulness with real life feelings. I am including some that really impacted me last night:

A moment like this

Some people wait a lifetime,

For a moment like this

Some people search forever,

For that one special kiss

Oh, I can't believe it's happening to me

Some people wait a lifetime,

For a moment like this

How many people in this world "miss" their moment? Listening to just some of the chatter with friends, their children, teenagers, family, and strangers ......quite a few people I suspect. God talks to us....but we need to listen and look so we don't miss those moments. (are you listening?)

I lose my way

And it's not too long before you point it out

I cannot cry

Because I know that's weakness in your eyes

I'm forced to fake

A smile, a laugh everyday of my life

My heart can't possibly break

When it wasn't even whole to start with

This made me think of all the "tough guys" our society is creating. Girls cry and release their emotions so they can deal with whatever they are feeling and sometimes are made to feel they are big babies but it is more acceptable for girls. Guys have to be strong and hold back so they are miserable because they have no outlet for their emotions that is acceptable. It is a sign of weakness if they indulge their feelings. Well, BUNK! I say if we are going to live God's way, we need to all be sensitive to what causes tears in the first place. They don't just "happen" and are there for a reason of pain, frustration, love, happiness. They are never for "no reason". Granted there are some that use tears because they are good at dramatics.....but I have made the mistake of thinking that only to find out "the rest of the story" and that those tears represent far more pain than I thought.

So, on my trip back from Chicago, I was blessed with a quiet moment to hear songs of praise, a serious moment to think about human emotions, and a thankful moment to be alive and to have the chance to have all of my moments. They all come and go so quickly. When you think you have a lifetime, reality is, grab your happiness today because none of us is promised a tomorrow and the happiness we choose to have today may actually be a lifetime full.
